Wednesday, February 17th, 2010Outside my work hours, I have been putting a decent amount of time on my music project, Ouzel. This week, I have uploaded some new tracks online and mostly likely these will be included on the first ep to be released in the near future.
The above pic is from cover art for the individual song White Alice which is going to evolve into a concept album in months ahead. So look for more details on that project.
“Opening up yet another fragment of the frontier of beauty.”
- from a story by Jerome Weidman. I would suggest reading the whole story, you can read it here, on Derek Sivers blog.
Interval Studies
Saturday, February 13th, 2010Interval Studies is a project by Tristan Perich that explores microtonal systems through a set of speakers. The array of speakers are set up to produce the sounds between particular musical intervals, but instead of just using the fundamental intervals, Tristan is using microtonal steps. From that, he is creating about 100 micro steps to create the same intervals that would usually take about 4 or 5. Watch the video above to find out more about Interval Studies.

Gotham
Monday, February 1st, 2010“New York is peculiarly constructed to absorb any event that comes along, without inflicting the event on its inhabitants; so that every event is, in a sense, optional, and the inhabitant is in the happy position of being able to choose his spectacle and so conserve his soul… I believe (this) has a positive effect on the creative capacities of New Yorkers—for creation is in part the business of forgoing the great and small distractions.”
—Here is New York, E.B White, Summer 1948
Below are some excerpts from Bill Morrison and Michael Gordan’s collaboration with Gotham. The music is beautiful and truly emotional. The excerpts from the film look great as well, hopefully I can figure out a way to see the film.
